Photo taken in the Makgadikgadi Pans, Botswana.
I moved to southern Africa in mid-2015. Being based in Botswana, I’ve had some great opportunities to see the country – from the Kalahari Desert to the Okavango Delta. Further afield, trips into Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe have helped open my eyes; this is just the beginning.
Although I created this site purely to share some of my photos, I found great satisfaction in writing, typically with a blog post for each new area that I've been able to explore. My posts will certainly not be of interest to everyone, but hopefully there is something that you find at least vaguely interesting as you explore too from your armchair or office desk.
Unfortunately, I'm writing too much as part of my "day job" and postgraduate studies, and so I have taken a break from the blog posts for now...but maybe I'll start up again at the end of 2018.
Despite Africa being a massive continent, that feels a world away from the developed world, it is a region that is shrinking. The adoption of Western culture and rapid uptake of technology is transforming Africa with both positive impacts and drawbacks. I can only imagine what it would have been like to be an early explorer one or two centuries ago, being the first European to take a glimpse of Africa’s many Wild Places. In this 21st Century, I can only do my best to play catch up. And so I shall continue for the foreseeable future…
